Descripción decolonial |
The image of women and girls at a community center playground reflects the coloniality of gender within modern institutions as well as the ongoing condition of colonialism on the rural landscape of Puerto Rico. The structured recreational space, complete with slides and monkey bars, exists within landscape marked by a concrete building that embodies American influence, evidenced by the U.S. flag. The separation by fences and the visible soil conservation work underscore colonial control over land and resources. This setting reinforces gender roles through recreational segregation while highlighting the enduring impact of colonial power structures on community design and land resource management.
