Descripción decolonial |
Twice removed through the lens of the camera and the distant view produced by an airplane, we witness a cluster of wooden homes along the shoreline of Arecibo. In the distance, there rises an elegant lighthouse with neoclassical features. The strand of sand and sea echoes the curves of the highway, which meets at a river mouth. The wooden structures, cement highway, and distant lighthouse, hemming the sea, speak to the encroachment of human industry on the natural environment. The ocean waters sustain life for the community, even as human activity threatens the very viability of that natural resource. The right to housing, and the need for economic development, here meets the high cost of environmental degradation.
