Descripción decolonial |
In the public square, Plaza Delicias, of the municipality of Guánica, there is a high concentration of population in the parish of San Antonio Abad, built in 1888 during the Spanish colonial period. The church is seen as the only knowable element of Plaza Delicias, thus showing its coloniality of power that imposes a Eurocentric worldview as a belief system, denying religious otherness beyond the Catholic faith. There was only one interest of the Spanish government in wanting to shape the Puerto Rican identity from what was correct in the Manichean sense of the colonial order. The absence of urbanized space in the parish's border areas suggests the lack of interest that the Spanish government had in developing urban planning in the southwest, which would not be surprising if the Guaniquean population had not shown much resistance during the American invasion of the island.
