The title, date, and address were provided by the Architecture and Construction Archive of the University of Puerto Rico (AACUPR). In the file provided by the archive, the following information is clarified: "Photographer: Carol F. Jopling, architecture students, or Earth Watch volunteers". On the back of the image, there are handwritten notes that read: "157 A, CAJ|0112|F0001". Some of the photos found in the archives of this collection are repeated and show the same houses because they document other formats created for the project. Examples: 35mm negatives, color, black and white, instant photos, photos that were brightened or with contrast.

The Jíbaro House with Balcón epitomizes decoloniality through its vernacular design. Raised on stilts with a flat zinc roof, the wooden house mirrors traditional practices. An open balcony, lattice-style windows, and a simple wooden door recall local aesthetics, adapted to the climate and conditions of Puerto Rico. Adjacent to the house, a gas tank hints at self-sufficiency. Though the house may appear meager, the scene radiates pride and resistance. Dishes outside tell a story of simple living. An anthropological interviewer, an outsider, witnesses the resilience of a community, embodied in the distant gaze of a woman of African descent. She perseveres against historical odds.
