Dr. Agustín Stahl Stamm House - Bayamón - 2011 00024
Dr. Agustín Stahl Stamm House in Bayamón. Oblique view of the house's main facade. It has brick masonry walls covered with stucco and faces José Martí Street. It features a symmetrical layout with three double-leaf wooden doors, each protected by iron grilles and topped with a decorative cornice. All three feature identical glass panels to allow natural light. The doors to the left and right of the central door have wooden lattices. The roof has a parapet and a cornice that runs the length of the facade. Above the door cornice is a sign that reads "Baya Empresas." Two wall lamps are also visible on either side of the door, and cement buildings are visible on either side. Hanging electrical wires and parked cars are visible on the street. The house, built in the 1840s, exhibits Neoclassical architectural features and was not only the residence of the internationally renowned Puerto Rican scientist Agustín Stahl (1842-1917), but also served as a medical office, laboratory, and storage for his natural history and anthropology collections. It was acquired and partially restored by the Bayamón City Hall in 2000, which later converted it into a museum. Although there are no historical floor plans for the house, no alterations were made during the restoration process, thus preserving its integrity in terms of materials, spatial distribution, location, and ambiance.
